Hotel review: Lilland Brewery Hotel (Tau, Norway)

When I was searching for a hotel near Preikestolen, there were not many options to choose from, as it was almost a last-minute trip. We wanted to start the hike to Preikestolen early in the morning so we didn’t want to waste too much time driving from Stavanger. Lilland Brewery hotel was one of the few descent options with private bathroom at affordable cost. The location seemed convenient as well, so I booked a double-bed room for one night. We were pleasantly surprised!

Location

Lilland Brewery hotel is located in Tau, approximately half way between Stavanger and Preikestolen parking. Hence, the place offers a very convenient base camp for exploring both destinations. It is only around 20-minute drive from Preikestolen, so our plan returning from the hike before breakfast was totally doable. The hotel offers free parking and it is within walking distance from Rema1000 and Extra Supermarket. Buses for Stavanger city center depart from a stop 200 metres from the hotel.

Rooms

Both, the room and the bathroom were relatively spacious. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, which is very important for a good start of a hiker’s day. Bathroom toiletries, free in-room wi-fi and coffee maker were also there. Lilland Brewery also offers glamping options: two really nice tents are located behind the hotel. They have a private outside area with a small barbecue grill so you can make your own lunch or dinner. We were really tempted to stay in the tent, but we found the in-room bathroom option more comfortable.

Breakfast and bar

The breakfast was served in paper bags, one per each guest. I am not sure if this was because of covid-19 safety measures or is this something usual We found it very convenient and hygienic. You can take tea, coffee and juice from the bar (self-service), also throughout the day, and sit either inside or outside in a nice terrace. Since we were lucky with the weather and just came back from Preikestolen hike before 10 am, we took the terrace option. Great feeling!

The hotel

The hotel also has its own brewery, which means you can taste the variety of home-made beer right at the bar. Wi-fi is free of charge throughout the property. The bar and the lobby are really cozy with a warming décor that makes you feel like home. And so does the wonderful staff.

Anda’s rate: 10 from 10

Bottom line: Lilland Brewery is officially a 3-star hotel so don’t expect luxury rooms or 4-star self-service breakfast. However, the price performance was a perfect 10 in my book so I can easily recommend it to anyone who wants a comfortable room with breakfast and bathroom near Preikestolen.
