I am sure you have all heard about the country that lies in the central Europe, nestled between Adriatic Sea, Dinaric Alps and Pannonian Basin. Most of people want to visit Croatia during summer for the obvious reasons. There are not a lot of countries in the world where you can choose between hundreds of islands (Hvar, Brac, Korcula being amongst most popular) or so-called mainland rivieras with beautiful old towns like Dubrovnik or Split. I have visited most of Croatian rivieras (in fact, I visit Opatija almost every month), and I can easily say that Makarska is one of the most beautiful ones in the Adriatic region. Unfortunately, millions of tourists also know this, so prepare to get crowded. A lot. Alternatively, here are 5 things to do near Makarska Riviera in case you have an extra day off or you get tired of frying your body in the sun.
Hotel review: Bluesun hotel Afrodita (Tučepi, Croatia)
We have passed by Makarska Riviera several times but never found the time so stop there for couple of days and just enjoy what it has to offer. This September we decided to make a long weekend escape from Slovenia, combining some outdoor activities (hiking and bicycling) and catching some vitamin D on the beach. The primary goal was to be located on the beach and close to Biokovo National Park, which was the starting point for the bicycle tour. While I was hesitating between a rich offer of cheaper private apartments and rooms (September is not that crowded anymore), I rather chose a hotel in Tučepi with a higher standard of comfort and fantastic location. Here is my review of Bluesun hotel Afrodita.
Heading to Perth? Here are some useful tips.
When the time finally arrives to head to a destination that you’ve been excited for “since forever” you want to make the most of it. You’ve booked your time off from the office, and set your our of office reply to ” currently unavailable” mode. Your camera is ready for your adventures and enormous pile of books is packed for the evenings and relaxation. Your hotel/apartment is booked, you’re going to (or have already) hire a car from Burswood Rentals, and you can’t wait to start sightseeing. So, you are heading to Perth and your vacation is already going to be fantastic – but how do you upgrade it?
Safari in South Africa
Going on safari in Africa has been on my bucket list since forever. I always thought I would do my first one in Kenya or Tanzania, but after a deep research I decided that safari in South Africa is the best option for beginners. Planning a safari trip is quite a challenge itself; in fact, you need to ask yourself a lot of questions even before you start planning your itinerary. Which country is best for safari, should I do it alone or with an agency, how many days do I need, will I see all the animals, is safari dangerous and similar questions that probably brought you to my blog.
Petting baby lions in South Africa
My name is Anda and I am obsessed with lions. I have spent hours in different zoos observing these magnificent animals, although this “hobby” can be quite frustrating. First of all, I believe no animal should be locked up in a cage, at least not in a space too small to ensure a decent quality life. Lions are huge, they need space to grow, run, develop their muscles and catch their own food. Anything else is almost the same as torture. Secondly, lions are big lazy bastards and it can take hours before they move. Seeing lions in their natural environment has thus been on my bucket for as long as I can remember. And so has cuddling a baby lion. My dreams have finally come true in South Africa. But only after learning a few very important facts about lions and lion cubs which helped me to put my big moral dilemma aside.
Resort review: Vuyani Safari Lodge (Hoedspruit, South Africa)
After the decision about safari in South Africa has finally been made, I started harassing different lodges near Kruger National Park with my ultimate question: “Will I see the lions?” While some owners didn’t even bother to respond, the majority of others told me that they couldn’t guarantee lion encounter. The manager from Vuyani Safari Lodge was a bit more specific: “I can’t guarantee you will see lions; however, our guests are usually very lucky.” I already had my eyes on this property due to their good Tripadvisor rating and great sense of humor on their web page and social media accounts. Having discussed the details with Bernard was the ultimate deal breaker, so I booked 5 days in Vuyani Safari Lodge honeymoon suite. And I literally cried on my way back home.
